This is a valuable book that includes all the covenants that have reached us from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, regarding doing what is commanded and leaving what is forbidden (Lawaqih al-Anwar al-Qudsiyyah fi al-Ahd al-Muhammadiyah). The motive for Imam al-Sha’rani to compose it was: “I have not seen so many brothers searching for what is missing in their worldly affairs, and I have not seen any of them searching for what is missing in their religious affairs except a little.” So I was filled with religious zeal for them and their religion, so I wrote this book for them, alerting every person to any shortcomings in his religious matters. So whoever among the brothers wants to know what he has lost of his religion, let him look at every covenant that I mentioned to him in this book and reflect on himself, so that he may know with certainty what he has neglected of the rulings of his religion, and then begin to make up for it or regret and seek forgiveness if it is not possible to make up for it.”
